Top 10 must try NYC dishes

Updated: Jul 23, 2019

In my four trips to #NewYork over the last six years I have tried numerous restaurants (I am Foodie in Boots after all!). It is a city of authentic cuisines from diverse regions whether it be #Italian, #German, #Japanese, #MiddleEastern, #Mexican or #Indian. I have shortlisted must-try places (so you don’t have to 😉) which have somehow left an impression on me. Some places are new and some are old time favourite. So here are the best delectable dishes need to try when you are in the #BigApple.

1. Ferris, an edgy and cool vibe restaurant!

This restaurant is like a hidden gem situated in the basement of #MADE hotel.

It not your ordinary sandwich. It’s called Iberico Katsu Sando (means a Japanese Cutlet sandwich). A good junk of medium rare pork between lightly toasted bread with katsu sauce. This dish surpasses everything you have eaten so far.

2. Artichoke Pizza, who doesn’t love pizza?

I don’t know how I have survived till now without tasting the Artichoke Pizza. It might be the second-best pizza after pepperoni. This place situated at MacDougal street is opened till late hours, you’ll find queue stretching till outside most of the time but believe me its worth the wait. The pizza has a crispy crust with cream sauce, spinach, artichokes and loads and loads of cheese.

3. Ai Fiori, the place for Italian cuisine!

A Michelin star restaurant serving great Italian food. Their handmade pasta clubbed with seasonal ingredients is the highlight. I have been spoilt for good Italian food after visiting Ai Fiori. You absolutely cannot miss their pastas which are unbelievable.

4. Hunt & Fish, dine under the stars here!

Upscale restaurant near Time Square, serves some amazing steaks and seafood. I fell in love with their Whole Grilled Branzino with lemon caper pesto. The pesto sauce compliments the fish so brilliantly.

5. Marc Forgione, from community to fine dining!

The dish to devour on is their famous Chili Lobster with Texas toast. It’s this Lobster that keep me coming back, they are consistently, unfailingly flavourful. Just dunk that butter garlic toast to get the best out of this dish.

6. Grey Dog, chill vibes with great food!

A neighbourhood café with great vibes. Come here for their amazing breakfast spread. They have recently introduced some new items to their menu. The Blueberry Maple Mascarpone Toast is worth visiting this place for. The granola and blueberries add such a refreshing taste to this not so basic toast.

7. Zucker's Bagel, start your day with their bagels!

It’s the place to get those authentic hand rolled bagels. Pick anything from Zucker’s Traditional to just basic cream cheese bagel of your choice. Your mornings are going to be so better with Zucker’s bagel.

8. Ippudo, get your ramen fix here!

Your trip to New York is never complete without trying the Ramen Bowls. Ippudo is known for their baos and ramen bowls. You cannot skip the pulled pork bao.

9. Thompson Brooke, that perfect brunch place!

You have to visit this Brooklyn café for their Giant French Toast Donuts. It’s so crunchy from the outside and warm and fuzzy from the inside. Served with strawberry maple syrup and fresh cream. Perfect for those cheat meals.

10. Sigiri, the delicious Srilankan food makes it for the ambience!

A very tiny space in the East Village this Sri Lankan cuisine restaurant hits the right spot.

It’s a BYO space where you can devour on this amazing food at an affordable price. You have to try their Fish Cutlet, Fish curry with some rice and Chicken Kotthu Roti which is a Sri Lankan road side specialty prepared from doughy pancakes shredded and stir fried with vegetable, onions and egg.
